I am the coordinator for our school's Roots & Shoots (Jane Goodall Institute's educational) group. This consists of around 45 third, fourth and fifth graders. We are part of a tiny K-8 school in norhtwestern CT. We are having a bike rodeo fundraiser and the profits will go towards making and growing a fruit garden on one side of the school (lawn). They hope eventually to be able to share the fruit with the other students at our school.

Dear Tricia, I think it is great that you are using part of the school grounds to grow food. We forget sometimes that there are kids that live in places where it isn't that easy to go out and grow something. Here in Arlington, Virginia we have several plots near apartments and condos where people can go free and grow a patch of garden.
